Millions of rides have taken place south to north, and back again along the Alaskan Way Viaduct. That structure changed forever in 2011, with the "southern mile torn down in October to prepare for the deep bore tunnel to be built in Seattle. The one thing most people have expressed that they will miss, is the view from the viaduct. Since drivers normally look straight ahead, here's a somewhat shaky, slightly spacey attempt at preserving this memory for those who want to remember it and those who have never seen it.

  • Wow first what is the name to the opening song? Secondly omg! I don't live in Seattle but came here in Jan 2011 and already there is no 'Safeco Field" and now this is down too? I think I recall my cab going down this road. I am from a farily rural city compared to Seattle and driving down here was an amazing experience! Never seen so many city lights in my life and that was traded for.. an underground view?!

  • @Caprican28 The track is called Viaduct Space Track by Scott Robinson. It's meant to convey a sense of motion and suggested conversation, of moving forward while savoring the present moment with a touch sadness about the passing of all things.

AND YES.... the replacement for this will be lower capacity, underground and very expensive tunnel. The truth is that the viaduct became old, very vulnerable to earthquakes and victim to the wishes of many who want to remake the Seattle waterfront.

  • You keep showing the water but that isn't even the coolest part of the viaduct. What's so cool about the viaduct is the fact that its so close to all those buildings. It really makes you feel like you're in a modern and almost futuristic city.

  • @WestSeattleHerald Thanks I was so upset I didn't wait until the end where you clearly noted the song information, sorry about that. I still hope to move back to Seattle but to be honest the thought of being underground near the waterfront during an earthquake doesn't make me feel any better. Amazing video nonetheless!
