This work was made for architect /artist/semioticist José Wagner Garcia, for a venue during ArteCidade 2002. An urban intervention was made with a pile driver next to a bridge at SP's East Region, and the seismic signal caused by them recorded at different points and later used in the visualization.

The video shows an intermediate stage of the work, the final version was showcased during an exposition and a short making of movie was made.

The seismographic data was recorded using an A/D converter card through LabVIEW, and the visualization was made with a Java program that generated a MaxScript file that later generated a 3D Max file to be rendered.

A little more about this work (Rhythms' Thief) can be seen at this URL (I still don't get the artistic/semiotic motifs behind it) http://www.pucsp.br/artecidade/novo/english/garcia.htm

We were influenced by Laurens Lapré work "Emerald City" that also used landscapes defined by cubes (http://members.ziggo.nl/laurens.lapre/emerald.html)
