Sandaoling coal mine has probably the largest fleet of industrial steam locomotives still operating in the world. At sunrise, after the morning shift change, a stream of JS 2-8-2s leave Xibolizhan with rakes of empty wagons bound for the pit. The spoil and coal trains work the deep pit in push-pull mode. Note the semaphore device protruding from the roof of the last wagon of each train, this is used by the brakeman to signal to the loco driver when working in push mode.
The parallel vapour trails in the sky are created by jets on the flight-path from Far East countries to the West. December 2009
