Here is a head to head comparison between the Apple iPad Vs. The Amazon Kindle as an eReader. The iPad is a great device that allows a basic computer user to check their mail and surf the web as well as use some apps that will stream video like ABC and Netflix.

At the end of the day, the iPad will give you more options along side an eReader but you will spend twice as much and will require a 3G subscription. The Kindle reads like a paper book and includes a 3G subscription at no additional cost.

As an eReader ONLY, the Kindle wins.

The iPad is not a eBook Reader, it's more like "hi tech laptop"

@mucast There are a lot of people purchasing the iPad specifically as an eBook reader. The iPad does compare to a netbook but when people as me which device they should get specifically for reading books, I tell them the Kindle. I was as unbiased as possible as I own both and love both of them.

The kindle is about 450.00 cheaper - if you're looking for an e-reader, this is it. The ipad is more of a computer, just not a quite a computer. I would rather invest my money in a computer instead of the ipad for the money- the ipad is overrated.
