I have been there and It is Amazing !

Because it is politically part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, tourists tend to think that is unsafe because of the separatist violence.

Ladakh is beautiful, very safe to travel to and breathtaking. You should however be very fit if youre planning to hike. Lots of tourist agencies charge a nominal fee for a guided hike(serious hike, physically demanding, not the usual fun hike that tourists can take at most places.)
