'The Mind Beyond' was a six-part series in the long-running BBC series 'BBC2 Playhouse' (season 4) . 'Meriel The Ghost Girl' was first broadcast on 29th September 1976. Written by David Halliwell, the play was directed by Philip Saville and starred Donald Pleasence, John Bluthal and Janet Street-Porter. The producer was Irene Shubik, who had also produced the BBC series 'Out Of The Unknown'.

This is one of the besttv shows ever,the first time I watched it,I was so compeled by the first 20 minutes and wondering how it would turn out,in a way I don t think I have with any other programme,then came Sam Nichols + Robina Oliver (Janet Steet Porter + John Bluthal (frank from the vicar of dibley) ) so the first time I was wondering what the hell happened,but by the 9th find it to be an extraordinary piece of television.

That took a surprising turn! I love these studio dramas of the 1960's and 1970's. They have an intensity that you just don't get now. And needless to say, the subject matter is far more thoughtful and interesting than what we are given today (another Casualty spin-off anyone?).

TV really was the National Theatre of the airwaves in those days - both BBC and ITV.
