The Great Pacific Garbage patch is 6 meters under the surface water. That is why it does not show on satellite pictures. This is the reason not many people know about this rubbish patch. You can only see the actual rubbish if you go through it on a boat.

"biodegradeable" plastic often just means it degrades into smaller pieces of plastic. Doesn't entirely solve the problem.

Allot of it is rubbish that people have just throne into a bush, on a street corner or into a lake. The wind moves it either into a lake or any other water system that connect to the ocean or is blown strait into to the ocean.

The only question unanswered is how does our garbage end up in the ocean??

It is because the companies that should take care of disposing it just chuck it in the ocean because it is cheaper. New York city still simply dumps its garbage into the ocean. So it is the greed of the companies where we have to start a change. We pay for a correct disposal of our garbage and they just take our money and continue to pollute our world.

You and the 28 people that gave you a thumbs up should have googled your question. The answer is explained over and over again all over the internet.

Do an internet search, it’s an easy task. Or are you one of the...there is no global warming, there is no ozone depletion, the ground water is not being polluted goons? I don’t think I have ever heard that plastic completely biodegrades to the point that is harmless to our planet. You must come from a different planet.
