Here is an early test of a 3D rolling ball sculpture. The physics engine is Havok Reactor. I'm working on a bigger 3d model, but I'd like to make a "real" track some day.

  • does it take the rotation energy into account?

  • I believe reactor does, but I didn't spend a lot of time setting up the friction (rolling and otherwise), so it looks a little "off."

  • Sorry, how did you make the U-downturn? Was that Bend function in Modifier list?

    Thank you.

  • I drew the rail pieces as splines and lofted a small circle on each for the finished shape.

  • Im not much for digital, but it looks really cool.. I like the star pattern.

  • Thanks. I want to build a real track one day, but for now this is all I have time for.

  • IT DIDN'T LOOK REAL AT ALL... no gravity when they drop in the tub turns

  • im gonna make something like that in cinema 4d

  • Can you tell me please how do you priview this animation in Window or how you did the animation no not animation i mean when i preview my animation in window with Raytrace it only shows things i made no reflection Just cube How?

  • it looks as the balls are accelerating during fall, but their speed during the horizontal movement is very constant. that might imply friction caused by rotation reversal after the fall.

  • No,its a animating software

  • how do I subtract object matters from 3d max

  • is this a game?

  • no they dont, there moving down the whole time, it just keeps switching from a side to a top view.

the animation could be sped up a little though, as the balls don't move fast enough through the whole contraption, especially when falling down through the u turns
