an update on my 1.5 gal betta tank. As you can see, the lilly got pretty wild. Added some anacharis thinking I could use it to hid the filter tube, but no such luck, since it desicded to float instead. I added 3 ghost shrimp a few weeks ago, but my betta (Dragoon) decided he liked the taste of them...and they seemed to like the taste of his tail too. It's growing back, now that the shrimp are gone.

  • shrimp in a 1.5 with a betta, is way overloaded. bettas usually eat shrimp, anyways, so you'd be better off getting a little 5 gallon and raising shrimp by themselves. to help his tail heal, add a teaspoon of aquarium salt, then a half teaspoon, into a cup, stir till it's dissolved, then add it to his tank, over the course of an hour or so. also, do water changes every other day, to keep things extra clean, so he doesn't get fin rot. betta spa, also helps. :3

  • @Luimeril The shrimp were actually fairly small, so I don't think it was overcrowded too badly. Shrimp have a small bioload, I and I have lots of plants (dwarf lilly, java fern, anacharis) that pretty much take care of water balance. I also do frequent water changes, so that helps. As i said though, betta <3 shrimp cocktails

I'd try your salt idea, but I'm a bit worried about my plants. I'm pretty sure the java fern could take salt no prob, but could the anacharis and dwarf lilly?

you'll have to google it. the only live plant i mess with, is Java Moss, and it does okay with salt added.

i had a betta fry(baby), who was a little less than 2 months old, eat a red cherry shrimp who was as big as her! xD never, did i think she could eat it, but she did. it was cute, and pretty funny.

  • @Luimeril lol, bettas are just awesome like that. But now that you mention it, I wonder if cherry reds..no, prolly not unless I wanted to give him fish food, lol

  • @Luimeril also, tyvm for actually reading the description!

some bettas, don't care about the shrimp, some love eating them. as i said, you could always start a shrimp-only tank. :3
