  • Whether or not it contributes to society is irrelevant to whether or not it holds water. I'm not an atheist to contribute to society, I'm an atheist because I don't fucking believe in a god. And I do the same shit that your average Christian does to contribute to society. I work, I pay taxes, etc. Beliefs are irrelevant.

  • @JesterAzazel In the life of one very specific member of society such as yourself who doesn't concern himself/herself with wider events then I guess it would be irrelevant. Just because beliefs are irrelevant in your life and your activities in society doesn't mean it is suddenly irreverent to wider society and the social community.

At the risk of sounding rude - to claim otherwise is completely absurd.

  • Hitler said "National Socialism and religion cannot exist together.... The heaviest blow that ever struck humanity was the coming of Christianity." I would assume with statements like that he was not a religious man.

  • @MrUsedBooks I followed that quote up with this article about Hitler. you should take a look, its actually pretty interesting. I'll email you it.

  • Even though most scientists are atheists, there are still theist scientists. Besides, atheism and science are separate things. I've know atheists that are very anti-science, and theists that are very pro science.

Atheism is just a lack of belief on god. Nothing more, nothing less. Any other attribute about you stems from something else. Gay rights is more about being liberal, science is more about being intelligent, etc.

  • I went back and watched your video (I didn't before due to lack of quality) and I think I see why we disagree. You point out how religion has been detrimental to society at times. You're right, but that doesn't mean atheism has an impact. There are atheistic religions, too. Atheism is just a lack of belief in a god, not a lack of religion.

Also, you give atheism credit for science. For that to be the case, 100% of scientists would have to be atheists. (continued in next post)

  • @romanblood

I'm not sure how atheism effects society for other people, but that's their problem. As much as I like talking about it online, it's not a huge part of my life. A lot of people don't even know I'm an atheist because it doesn't come up.

And my main point was that all of this is irrelevant to which viewpoint is correct. Even if JesusFreak777 proved that we would be better off as Christians, that wouldn't change a damn thing about me.

  • @MrUsedBooks When you said "not a religious man" I thought you meant atheist.

  • @EviscerationK When did I say Hitler was an atheist?

  • @MrUsedBooks Hitler = Atheist: One phrase written in shorthand by a secretary that was thought to put him in the atheist camp by the first person who translated it but was thoroughly debunked by every subsequent person who looked at it.

Hitler = Catholic: Numerous public speeches, All over Mein Kampf, Letters, First treaty ever signed was with the Vatican, Atheists not allowed in the SS, "God is with us" on the belt buckles of every German soldier, etc, etc.
