In March 2005, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies demonstrated an areal density of 230 gigabits per square inch (Gb/in2) on perpendicular recording technology, the highest areal density achieved to date based on vertical recording. This accomplishment represents a doubling of today's highest data densities on longitudinal recording technology. Hitachi presents its perpendicular storage strategy in the style of Schoolhouse Rock.

  • I study Computer Science and this was shown to us at University. Needless to say, it was the best lesson ever.

  • @samaarst My bad, I was 14 at the time! My ignorance and stupidity was at an all-time high! XD

  • @dcheat

Wow, you take stupidity to a whole new level :)

  • @thecolde the upload date was misleading sorry... eyes on Borderlands' creators now :P

  • @DjGalm more likely the other way around. Considering this is from march 2005 and borderlands is from 2009 ;)

  • Reference to the Borderlands robot at 1:38 "Hey check me out! I'm dancin'... I'M DANCIN'!!!"

  • hilarious.. but it doesn't really explain anything.

as far as i know, the little ferromagnetic regions are just that.. regions with specks of iron that slide around in their region or flip around or whatever depending on the charge.

are they just saying they're going to put up taller walls and less surface area in each region?

seems like a stupid idea.. cuz the inducter will have to have variable sensitivity for the top and bottom regions different distances from the reader head.

  • anyone else think this sounds sexual-

    hey baby, wanna get perpendicular?

  • Hitachi Death stars

  • we watched this in math class today because wer'e leaning about geometry... :D
