Building Notes:
(depending on pots you choose, your needs may vary)
• drain hole in lower pot must be plugged & sealed
• drain hole in upper pot needed to be enlarged for hose & lamp wiring. You may wish to remove entire bottom of upper pot to allow access to lamp. I chose to leave it intact to serve as a sort of splash guard for the lamp.
• lamp has no switch or exposed electronics in base where leaking water could gather and is secured inside upper pot with liquid nails to prevent tipping. outdoor, waterproof lamps are recommended. bulb is 7.5 watts (nightlight bulb). This seems to match the intensity of the rope lighting well.
• lower plexiglass sheet was notched on edge to allow wiring to exit lower pot.
• rope lighting is kept securely in place inside lower pot rim by stones only & extra footage is taped up back side of upper pot to create a backlit effect.
• all parts are less than $100 at Home Depot. similar fountains are $300-$500 online. good luck!

  • I did make one and will give it to my mother-in-law as a gift for Christmas.I added more lights and used a metal flower pot.

  • Hope that was one of Al Gore's 100 year light bulbs in there. It's going to suck when you have to change it.

  • They make lights for submersion in ponds and fountains. It would be safer to just buy one and use that in case any water leaks. That setup could kill you!!!

  • I did try this at home... Now i got water damage... xD
