is it just me or are some notes really off?

Yes, i'm not sure if it's intentional or not.

yes im not sure this works well on piano and without lyrics.seems he missed the point although ive got a lot of respect for anyone who can play the piano as its damned hard!

I think some of the people who are saying it sounds nothing like Elliott Smith's song or who are criticizing the pianist I think you should appreciate the fact that he actually played a song by the most amazing artist and just because he didn't sound exactly like Elliott he shouldn't be looked down upon. I don't think Elliott would hate this version just because it's not the same as his, I'm pretty sure he would like it. I certainly wouldn't want to hear a song of mine played the same exact way.

i actually found the ending to be quite pretentious...but i guess it's just a matter of personal taste.

The rhythm is limp. Misses the mark for me. Too bad.

I just Love the ending, so Dark and rough. .

:D!!

It starts off good, but ends horribly... went way overboard.

Over-harmonized, at times way to dissonant and reeking of arrogance. I can't really see Elliott would have joined this, and i know i don't.
a great song. I like the passion at the end, but maybe a few too many notes for me. Thanks

yeah, it is reharmonized a bit, but still pleasing. not quite what elliott intended I'm sure, though a worthy effort.
