  • unelmitchell, another bleeding heart for the poor mistreated blacks. You got one in the Whitehouse, now shut the fuck up! Buckwheat was a "character", an accurate portrayal for "some" blacks in small towns and rural areas. Even the "white" kids appeared crude and uneducated. It was called "humor", something "unelmitchell" is sorely lacking. As far as the "time period" I grew up during that time (in the south), so don't hand me the bs horror stories.

  • I wish you could still get live entertainment shows like that now!

  • @ShortyMoneyTV I do watch and love them, showed them to my kids/grandkids -- but with a discussion about the racism, so they're aware. I agree about the wealth of material we have from a time when America was definitely not even pretending to be about equality. We can ignore it or we can enjoy the good in it while not being the least bit dismissive or unrealistic about the racism. What's not acceptable is when people think that even commenting on the truth shouldn't be okay.

  • @BlueSkyTune Yeah I understand, according to today's standards, these shows are kinda racist. Remember, this is in the 20s and 30s. Hal Roach's Our Gang was one of the first shows in history that showed whites and blacks as equals.

You can look at these shows and just point out the few racial snippits, or you could just enjoy watching a bunch of kids that are entertaining to millions of people.

If you don't want to watch these shows, then you don't have to.

  • @avoidsnnnet Hollywood, cali

  • agh does anyone know how can i watch the episode :cousin wilbur" & "dog daze"???

    I CANT FIND IT '____'

  • The difference between the black humorous characters and the white humorous characters is that there were plenty of other kinds of portrayals of whites -- noble, heroic, ordinary -- that put the humorous characters in perspective. There were no noble, heroic, or ordinary portrays of black people, just caricatures that portrayed the same stereotypes that were used to justify legal discrimination and violence.

  • Naaaw My old man whipped me with his razor strap.. That fat fucker probably needed it! HEHEHHE

  • sure wish i could share this.

  • Where the uck did this show" got filmed in which state of usa

  • OMGONG, REAL TALENT,& They DON`t Vote anyone off. NOT DUMBED Down Yet !

  • @garyshoaf I did not see what unelmitchell initially wrote but based on reading your comment - your point would be properly noted if it did not include the hateful tone. I am black myself and although I agree with you that ALL the children we stereotyped to create humor (fat kids, black kids & skinny kids) it would be nice for someone to make a point without throwing in racial slurs. Your important point is lost in the "I'm stooping to your level" comeback. Just food for thought...regards.
