i think the elves were not that great....

I agree. I moved out to the country and work with dogs now. I am surrounded by a 1,500-acre farm that is slated for development and as I wander through it, I feel like a caretaker, convening with the spirit of this land... I feel Elvenkind, every day is a sad tribute for something that might pass, this special land. Each day, I remain hopeful that I may one day ward off its destruction and preserve its beauty. I need help from The Elves, may they return soon

As it's described of humans of Middle-Earth, the gift of mortality is indeed made as a gift by Eru, because it's meant to free humans from the earth, and it's burdens when the time comes. But the elves are, however, earth bound as they are immortal.
I think being an earth bound race unless for grief and falling in battle has a lot to do with how much they care about the earth, and how much they want to create a paradise on earth. If they live for eternity, why not in health, bliss and wisdom?

there is somethings the world still hides.people say that there is nothing left on earth to discover now.but there is still somethings left.everyone has known the word-Yeti(the human like apes or snowmen sited in Himalayas and Siberian regions).Acc.to t=Tibetan stories and legends these creatures hide and protect a world different to ours.a world of lesser Gods(as they say).Acc to paintings and stories of Lord Buddha,he preached two Yakshas the lesson of peace.many philosophers called them Elves

The Elves may have been forgotten - some remaining here may even have forgotten themselves, but the love in our hearts never has let the dream fade completely. Things are changing. The memory of Elven things is returning. Take heart, those in whom this love shines brightest. Time to wake up. Time to remember. The veil is coming down. Heaven is returning to Earth (yes, Virginia, that which you most love you may well be).

They are forgotten only from Man's point of view. They of course don't forget a thing. Their passing to the West is also only sad from Man's point of view: that magic in a sense passes out of our world with them. They themselves are going to go live with Tolkien's equivalent of angels, the Valar. Not a bad deal at all, I wish I could go to the West with them. ;)

Now is the time to remember.
It always made me cry when the elves finally left Middle Earth... it is my opinion that they are the greatest of all the races of Middle Earth, powerful in all things... yet it is they that ARE forgotten. They fade into the background and allow their great deeds become even less than the faintest of memories... *sniffles*

I can't believe I've missed your comment! At the ending of the LOTR when Galadriel and Elrond leave ME, it is one of the saddest parts! They fought for the freedom of ME and they're the ones that get forgotten. Thanks for commenting and sorry it took me so long to reply.

Beautiful. I may prefer Ents and Dwarves (because they are more earthy and grounded in the world around them) but I can certainly appreciate the majestic magic of the Elves! :)

I seemed to have missed this comment for some reason. :-/ I love the Ents as well, but the Elves are beautiful and tragic at the same time...and facinating to the core. :-) Thanks for commenting!
