One piece of evidence of Finnish kingdom system or something like it is Rapola hill fort which wall is built over 1 kilometer long. To build that big fort requires a lot of men and some sort of design and management.

Why Finland has to have been a kingdom? Baltic Finnish culture itself is unique, we have sauna, poetry and much other things (find out about Vepsians for example). If there were only 50 000 people or something in Finland 1000 years ago, it would have been stupid to create a system with kings. On the other hand there may have been more people in Finland because the population is 5,4 million today and in Sweden there are about 9 million which aint much more if we take into account immigrants.

Finns traded the Russian river network since Neolithic Stone Age. The first Rus capital Alajoen linna/Aldeigjuburg (Staraya Ladoga), was an international settlement with strong Finnish component. That's hardly surprising as it locates in the center of the land that was later known as Karelia. The region was at that time inhabited by the Finnish tribe Tavastians who had expanded there since 500 AD, and a Finnic tribe Veps, who together merged into a new tribe called Karelians.

@Aurinkohirvi sorry if im bothering you with a 1 year old comment but. It's possible that there were Finns participating in raids. it's written on wikipedia that they traded and participated in plundrings with the Vikings. Not saying that Finland is a viking "country" just saying there could have ben a fue Finnish "vikings" since there was trading between sweden and finland at the time.

look into this, and see what can be brought out into daylight.

But it is strange that there is a black period, total ignorance, lack of knowledge about this part of Finland's history, and it may well be that the Swedes wiped out every evidence there was about the kingdom of Finland. Also in my opinion, you don't need to have a castle to be a king, come on, the Kingdom period would probably predate castles and such, and the culture back then may have not been so evolved to even build castles. Just my 5 cents, and I would like someone like Guillou --->
This is indeed Mythology and a lot of specualtions added to that! Finnish history and mythology is indeed often overlooked tho... But why on earth did you add Thors hammer as a background picture? The title was finnish mythology not scandinavian... (?!)
