The song being sung here is NOT "those were the days" it's Дорогой длинною ("Dorogoy dlinnoyu"), it was written by Boris Fomin (1900-1948) with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii.

THis song has only the melody in common the lyrics for "Days..." was written by Gene Raskin
