  • This is actually the first time in hundreds of clips I have seen of her and the few times I've seen her live that she makes a 'mistake'. You can tell in all of the clips of this concert that something was off for her - her dead-on focus was missing. Maybe she was ill, maybe overtired, whatever. None of us has the right to judge her - a singer that's defined the word 'flawless' for so many years. She as everybody else is getting on in age, too.

  • Распяли Рене за одну ноту и забыли о том,сколько восторженных моментов она дарила своим пением. А ведь она человек,который может уставать,испытывать разочарования. Дорогая,Рене, не отчаиваитесь...

  • Bullshit------ if everyone sings like her life will be just wonderful. Do you know how DIFFICULT is to take such high tone in piano? Have you ever tried??? Do it and then please delete you stupid note. Thanks Milan Svoboda

  • la mejor soprano de estos tiempos !!

  • Wow, her smile didn't even falter at that little bump at the end. When the music ended and nobody was clapping right away, that must have been terrible

  • LA GENTE ES UNA MI ER DA. I MEAN PEOPLE IS SH IT. y si.... le salio mal. pobre lo mas que se debio haber sentido! yes she was wrong i imagine how bad she felt. theres a man that hardly claps his hands. hay un tipo que a duras penas aplaude. estas cosas pasan porque los artistas son humanos. things like these happen cause artists are also human beings. i guess if only one of you can sing like her. me pregunto si uno de ustedes aunque sea puede cantar como ella......

  • @TheWisemonkey8 Hahah, no its not the same, but they are both difficult roles. Armida and Norma both need very dramatic soprano's who are able to sing coloratura and have a wide range.

  • @TheWisemonkey8 Maby it would ruin her voice if she sang it on stage, but Fleming could also have recorded Norma in the studio. Like Bartoli :P

  • @TheWisemonkey8 Armida is not the same as Norma... are you joking...lol?

  • @spenzur La Horne is correct... to be sure... it would... it has ruined every single sopranos voice who as sang the role for the past 100 years... just map the careers of the singers and compare the sound before and after...

I think only Caballe seemed to weather the tempest that is Norma... she then sang Turandot :s.

  • @TheWisemonkey8 I guess we have to blame Marilyn Horne, for she told Fleming not to sing Norma because it would ruin her voice. If thats the true story :P But yeah, Fleming could have sung such a difficult role in the '90's, just like Rossini's Armida. I really wonder what it would have sounded like. Life is too short hahaha :P

  • @spenzur I agree... mid 1990's would be the best time to have undertaken the role...

Although, the middle voice is still intact and the low tones are more sonorous than ever... if the lady wishes she can still sing for another 10 years. I think she should retire and manage the MET :)!
