Michael Collins was born in Sam's cross, a few miles outside the town of Clon. (which is what locals call Clonakilty for short.) His sister lived in Emmet Square in the centre of the Town and he lived with her for a while. He went to school for a while also in the local Boy's national school.
im hoping to travel down with my fiance and do a tour of southern ireland esp cork as we both have a very keen interest in irish history and i had a great uncle who took part in the flying columns of west cork (liam mulholland). Im looking to visit beal na blath, kilmicheal and the birthplace of Mícheál Ó Coileáin, we will be heading from belfast hopefully during the summer and hopefully be visiting clonakilty on our trip:) Slán go fóill, a chara.
