Thailand: Thaksin Supporters Protest

And in Thailand, more protests against the government and Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. Supporters loyal to ousted PM Thaksin Shinawatra have taken to the streets of Bangkok ahead of the upcoming ASEAN summit.

Thousands of anti-government protesters gathered in the Thai capital Bangkok ahead of the country hosting the ASEAN summit.

Dressed in red T-shirts, these protesters are supporters of former Thai Prime Minister Thakisn Shinawatra.

Shinawatra, now living in exile, was ousted in a military coup in 2006.

His supporters want Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to step down.

They also accuse the chief advisor to the King, General Prem Thinsulanonda
of playing an active role in Thaksin's ousting.

A charge the prime minister and the general deny.

[Kobkaew Pikulthong, Protest Leader]:
"We want those who obstruct the development of democracy to stop their interference behind politics. And it is obvious that General Prem Thinlasulanonda plays the leading role behind the political movements.

There have been no reports of violence, but security is tight.

Abhisit has insisted there is no threat to the ASEAN summit starting on Friday.
