My wife and I have learned that Philo is definitely the more active of our two cats. Philo's latest discovery is that he can play with our blinds.
While we were relaxing on our couch after dinner, Philo decided that he would try to catch the rod that's used to open the blinds. The little guy made a very valiant effort as he was able to jump up and swat the thing.
For the record, the rod is 51" (or 4' 3") above the ground. That's about 1.3 meters for those of you who use the "met-ric" system. Not a bad jump for a four-month-old.
Note how he initially bats at the blinds in order to make the rod move. After I turned off the camera, he began to figure out that he could climb onto the air conditioner to get closer to the rod, but he didn't follow through with the plan. He must have figured that he wouldn't get very good footing on the device (probably a smart decision).
11/9/09 update: Sadly, my wife and I were forced to put Philo to sleep this morning. We learned a week ago that he had a relatively rare cat disease called feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) which is both incurable and fatal. He was just over six months old.
Philo was a wonderful, playful, energetic kitten, and even though he was not with us long, my wife and I loved him as though we had known him for years.
He is greatly missed, and we will always remember him.
