Watch the full 71-minute video at http://www.goldmoney.com/martenson-presentation. In this video Chris Martenson - economic analyst at http://chrismartenson.com - talks about the energy predicament, namely that the quantity of oil as well as the quality of oil are in decline. He shows that oil discoveries peaked in 1964 and oil production peaked 40 years later. Martenson also shows how our return on invested energy is rapidly declining -- the "cheap and easy" oil fields have already been exploited. In 1930 the energy return for oil was 100:1 or greater. Today it is already down to 3:1 and newer technologies such as corn-based ethanol only provide a 1.5:1 return. Martenson predicts that the time in between oil shocks will get shorter and shorter and that oil prices will go much higher.

This video was recorded on November 16 at the Gold & Silver Meeting 2011 in Madrid.

  • It's like the fisherman who claim there's plenty of fish in the ocean, but have to use fancy hi-tech equipment to find said fish. Fishing the old-fashioned way, they'd get nada. The only reason we've continued to have barely adequate oil production is the technologies they developed to find out-of-the-way petroleum fields. And it's harder & harder to get the oil out of the ground. The only reason that will happen is if the price makes it worthwhile. None of this helps solve the energy crisis.

  • @mikailmari Oil energy - 1,000,000 years of photosynthesis. Impossible to obtain in real time.

  • whateva. peak has been predicted since 60ths just like the end of the world has been predicted @72, then 80, then 95, then 2000, then 2012 etc etc. It is all BULLSHIT. Plenty of oil in Canada sands alone enough for 400 years CONFIRMED !

  • corn ethanol isn't perfect. but it is one of the best alternatives we have to substitute for oil. i am proud that ethanol can put a little green at the bottom of your chart. that is more than others are doing. ethanol has more potential fuel per acre than my other favorite fuel bio diesel.

  • unless the goverment arnt tell all the oil they have or are disscovering
