This project was named on 5/5/10 one of the two winners in its category in the NXTlog Smart Move Challenge. The Skyway is 16 inches wide, 27 inches long and 12 inches tall. A motor takes two marbles one at a time and bats them on to the elevator. The elevator is controlled by a light sensor and when it detects a marble it slowly raises and gently deposits the marble at the top. After that it's more that 10 feet of gravity powered rolling down tubing til it returns back to the elevator. Hard to see in the video but there are two kinds of plastic tubing. The milky kind retains its shape but the transparent kind is very flexible. Had to put in a speed bump in the last section to slow down the marbles so they don't overshoot the elevator.

  • Is this normal ribbed technic tubing. Your work is brill!

  • @burf2000 Thanks! It is plastic tubing (1/4" outside diameter) from local hardware store. This project uses mostly the milky kind which holds its shape but a bit of the clear kind which is very flexible (and more expensive.) My new project, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride uses a lot of the clear kind.
