Unlike other game engines, Unity supports a number of input formats, allowing for direct integration with the CityEngine with the following features:

Direct model export to Unity via Autodesk FBX including textures - thus, generate'n'play your environment with a few clicks only.

Arbitrary mesh granularities such as per-material groups or editable scene nodes are possible thanks to CityEngine's various export options such as "merge by material" or "single node objects". Most of these options are supported by Unity.

Collider meshes (almost) for free: The CityEngine's CGA shape grammar is a perfect tool to generate and control low-res collider meshes in Unity (and they always adapt to model iterations).

  • Hi,

Nice demo. However like other users asked, we want to know how the collision mesh is being generated? it's not clear from the video or the decumentation how it's done. Would apreciate an answer as we are iin the process for doing a POC to single out a tool for purchase and integration in our pipeline.

    Many thanks

  • @meridjal Have a look at the CityEngine Forum there are examples that show you how to do this: forums.esri.com/CityEngine/forum-46758 . htm l

  • Can I ask a noob question, in what forms can a city be "exported"? Can a design be viewed (but not altered) by another 3d program?

  • @twooffour Hey thanks for your question. Your city can be exported as: OBJ, 3DS, DXF, VOB (e-on's Vue), FBX, Collada, RIB and MI (Mental Images). You can still adjust your geometry within another 3d program but this might not be useful since all the designing can be done in CityEngine. With Unity there is a special functionality where you can alter the design of your city in CityEngine and automatically update the changes in Unity (via linking). Ok for you?

  • Hi, I am new to CityEngine and I have a problem. I generated a schematic city in CityEngine, and selected the whole city. Then when I tried to export it, I press "Batch, Generate and export Geometry of selected Initial Shapes or models" , the Window that shows up is empty. I dont know what to do, please help me!

  • @TimnickProductionz Hi there. It looks like you are using the CityEngine Trial version, which is restricted to a 30 day trial period and no export functionality. So you wont actually be able to export using the trial.

Thank you for your comment and stay tuned for our upcoming CityEngine 2010 release where we introduce new features and also more flexible price models.

  • @trojanvillain Did you get the answer as to how to generate the collision mesh?

  • @CityEngineTV

I've written down these extensions, although it'll be some time until I can purchase this software :)

    Thanks for your response!

  • @letmego11 embed the textures... its in the fbx exporter menu

  • In Maya when I export my mesh via fbx, I get objects "without" textures. So I have to assign textures to objects manually in unity. Do you know how can I fix this problem?

  • hey can any body tell where to download that software???thanx in advance

  • hey cool you're swiss i can hear that! :D
