In an attempt to become "normal", 25-year-old Graham embarks on a journey to transform into a woman.... but it's easy to veer off-track when you're an outsider living in a world without role models.

  • The current state of srs surgery is little different than butchery.

You do not need a fake vagina to be a real woman.

You know on the inside what you are, so just live your life as you choose.

Most transwomen are electing to forgo the srs operation these days because of the growing level of acceptance of their womanhood without the genital mutilating surgery.

Keep your plumbing, and you can still be 100% woman based entirely on who you are on the inside. Be happy!

  • I think the bottom line in this discussion is this: The only people who will ever truly understand this issue are those with it. The rest of us, will simply have to accept that it is their body, and their life to do with as they please. You don't have to understand it, but you should respect it as someone's personal choice for them and their well being.

  • @roidroid I agree. Totally. And this documentary does no favours for LGBT people.

  • @ClaireseStarr I like your message of happiness and wishing transwomen happiness, but you have to do understand that some of us (me in particular) want this surgery to be happy with ourselves and it isn't just to fit into the gender boxes that society has laid out. Srs has come a LONG way and it certainly isn't "butchery." You may be happy with your genitals the way they are but I certainly am not happy with mine. I want to have sex as a woman and feel like a woman...having a vagina...

  • @TheSnowyice I'm very happy that many transpeople are realizing they don't need surgery to be who they know they are, because it really isn't right for everyone. But I am still going to have the surgery myself for myself, because it will make me more comfortable with my own body - and I would say the procedure is a fair bit different than butchery.

  • @sheyda212 I'm sorry to tell you that your doctor is wrong. What he might have meant to say is that a Transsexual is someone who wishes to change their physical body in some way, be that hormones or surgery or both. Transgender on the other hand is a much broader category, it includes anyone who feels their gender assigned at birth does not match with who they really are(and deciding not having a major irreversible surgery doesn't mean you aren't a woman).

  • wow, GREAT!!

  • freaks

  • @roidroid update: oh, i've just read that this is one of THE major points the docco is about. haha i'm fucking psychic.

  • @sheyda212 >"actually makes u a gay male"

    No, it doesn't.

It strikes me as very strange that you as a transgendered person, would inturn refuse to respect someone else's chosen gender and sexual identity.

  • 0:47 "i don't like effeminate people"

This honestly strikes me as hypocritical homophobic/transphobic self-loathing. I seem to come across this a lot, and it seriously makes me question the authenticity of the whole of transexuality everytime i hear it.

Someone recently suggested to me: "transgenders suffer from a mighty complex: we hate the gender structure we're pushed around in but at the same time perpetuate it the most."
