Wow, I remember watching this when I was 11 years old, the passion for The Cup was so much more back then.

The eagles were solid!!!

Switched on the Tv to find Rush had given LFC the lead. I thought 'here we go again, another expected Liverpool victory'. But Palace did not roll over and die despite the opposition and the 9-0 earlier in the season. Was privileged to have it live on the box in the days before Sky, when semi's were at Villa Park/Old Trafford etc - not Wembley, and the FA cup meant something. However, whenever I see this footage,I have to laugh when the police gets barged during Palaces' 2nd goal celebration!

I am a liverpool fan who went to school in south norwood right near these fuckers so for 5 years i watched them get into the top flight and had to listen to mouthy palace fans every week. Wouldnt be so bad but they actually did bloody well finished 3rd one year and this was even more special because its the same season we beat them 9-0 and 2-0 in the regular season. to all my old palace mates this is still your biggest thing you will ever talk about! love the rivalry though always special.

I remember watching this, it was probably the best FA Cup semi final ever, and the right result!! Thanks Palace from an Evertonian.

@redredreds100 I pretty much agree with you, though the game pre-1990s was different - the backpass rule had not been brought in, and the tackle from behind was allowed. Liverpool used to go 1-0 up in games and just shut it down. I agree totally about the likes of Drogba etc, but would add Terry, Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney and all the others, who are overpaid and who have underachieved for England on the national stage. Thing is though, millions do want to watch them - hence Sky's success.

@THthefirst And that is a crying shame, along with these foreign payers comes their cry baby antics, I would not want to pay good money to see the likes of drogba, suarez and tevez,, all cheats, babies and come with a lot of baggage, when Liverpool were masters off the universe, we did not bring in foreign players, because we had really skillfull staff, and give praise to classless ferguson all you like, but he never will be a Shankly, Clough, Revie or a Stein,

@redredreds100 Depends how you define quality - in terms of passion and commitment, you are spot on, because most foreign players now (indeed, a lot of homegrown ones) don't have the same passion. In terms of quality meaning talent, it is obvious that the influx of international stars into the premiership has brought more skill and ability. That's why Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal etc all look to bringing in foreign players as they are generally better.
The best football match i've ever watched

Great game. It's interesting to see football just before the premier league - far fewer foreign players and whilst the overall quality may not be as high, it means so much more to the players and fans.
