Where do Autistic Adults Go After Special Education Ends?

After special education ends for severely autistic persons, there are few, if any community based adult programs that can or will take severely autistic adults, especially with behavioral challenges. How can we change this? We fought so hard for so long I honestly thought I'd have a nervous breakdown. Thank God for those who fight for autistic rights.

I just wanted to say that I LOVE hearing him when he is Happy and making all of the Noises that he does, I can usaly tell while watching your Videos of Jamie when he is Happy or Frustrated=) I realy want to go back to school and get my masters in Special eduaction or even some kind of therpy to Work with Special needs children and adults=)

if this is severe form of autism, it has nothing to do with special education that works with autist high functionning like me(asperger syndrome). As an autist, I don't see how the special educator that helping me everyday will know how to help this autist kind.

2nd sorry, I don't agree that this 21 years old receive the same help as me.

@buffalobills911 You are right. If you are high functioning then your education would be much different, as you're able to write and speak. Jamey, on the most severe side of spectrum requires a different kind of education. However, in his sp. ed class a High functioning autistic who is NON verbal, gets a long fine with Jamey. They seem to have a connection.

@buffalobills911 I had to pull my son out of 11th grade, because he is nonverbal has severe cerebral and required to use a wheelchair. His school put my son in a harmful situtation which forced me to home school him. they weaken him physically and mentally. I trained home care workers and he is making tiny progress weekly. The public school system don't want anyone who required continous supervison and help. There is no way he can be himself if he goes to any institution. ~Daniel's mom

I hate to see any child or any adult for that matter with any disease or any disability or anything wrong with them.I am a Christian and I wish that my walk with God was in the place that it needs to be so that I could be as Peter was and how even his shadow that passed over ailing people were healed.I wish I could get to the place in God that I could lay hands on anyone that has any condition and they would be instantly healed.I hate to see people suffer.My grandmother suffered with breast cncr
