"The Baiji (Chinese: 白鱀豚; pinyin: báijìtún) (Lipotes vexillifer, Lipotes meaning "left behind", vexillifer "flag bearer") is/was a freshwater dolphin found only in the Yangtze River in China. Nicknamed "Goddess of the Yangtze" (simplified Chinese: 长江女神; traditional Chinese: 長江女神; pinyin: Cháng Jiāng nǚshén) in China, the dolphin was also called Chinese River Dolphin, Yangtze River Dolphin, Whitefin Dolphin and Yangtze Dolphin. It is not to be confused with the Chinese White Dolphin (simplified Chinese: 中华白海豚; traditional Chinese: 中華白海豚; pinyin: Zhōnghuá bái hǎitún). The 2007 IUCN Red List classifies the Baiji as extinct."

  • @jaysuewatch

Everything that I´d written is true.

Yes, there were sightings, but no credible ones. A photo or a video of something that is two miles or more away, seemes to be white and therefore could be a baiji is just not enough as a proof.

The attitude, that the baiji could be extinct, but not necessarily is, leads imo to the irresponsibility of mankind. So everyone can continue destroying the yangtze ecosystem like before.

    Kind Regards

  • sorry about the last comment i messed that one up.

can you explain to me what the efforts were in that 6 week baiji search in 2006.

and i do realize several species are in jeopardy due to the carelessness of the chinese government who absoloutly do nothing to help the yangtze river

i still believe the baiji is quite critically endangered to extinct.

  • No Problem! I just wanted to explain you my point of view and not convince you of something.

The Efforts were imo to catch media attention for this expedition, to find during this 6 week expedition some Baijis left in the jangtze ecosystem, make some photos or videos as a proof for the public and in the end to find some organizations, who spend the needed money for a new conservation program.

It´s a great pity, but it was in 2006 already too late.

    Kind Regards

    Blade

  • RIP Baiji. Its all your fucking fault people!!!! :(

  • I cried at this :( Poor Baiji! No animal deserves to die in its own home. Humans are shit; there's too many of us and too many of us don't care. I don't like to think about those last couple of poor lonely Baiji swimming about in that polluted river, it's heartbreaking

  • There are far too many people in this world and far too many people who don't care about anything but themselves.

  • The Chinese don't care. All they care about is keeping their iown people slaves to make products for Walmart.

  • @Grindmen25 You are one of the human kind and can you swear you have never wasted anything?

  • Wasn't there a tributary of the Yangtze River, which had a steel grate at its opening, so it could be separated from the Yangtze, where the remaining baijis could survive from the pollution and shipping traffic of the Yangtze?

  • @jaysuewatch @blademaster1948 there were some observatories and its confirmed that the baiji is critically endangered but NOT extinct. the dolphines will start humping and the baiji might not be so endangered. we also have to stop destroying the yangtze river

  • It may not be extinct, if there any left they

Are too old to you know, Uhhhhh, have babies

  • @NPDhirschberg

The Chinese did try to help, but sadly, it was too late.

Of course, it's extinction isn't truly confirmed yet.
