On the Road with Jessie Mae Hemphill

Jessie Mae loved to tell stories. These are just a few she told one day as we traveled around looking for place to cash a check she'd been holding onto. Jessie didn't trust banks and didn't want them to hold the check until it cleared. We never did find a place to cash the check, she even tried to buy a used car with it in Tunica.
