Dialysis is a choice you have a choice to prolong your life. It is not a cure but it gives you the time and chance to extend your life

And be productive, plan your goals while you wait for a kidney transplant. I have seen and met people that are on dialysis for more than 29 years. I think that's better than feeling sorry to your self and quitting .It gives you a chance to go on with your life and enjoy the people that cares about you. It's better than nothing. @Krazed4Tech this is correct and all kidney diseases doesn't cureable. patients with ckd or kidney diseases does only prolonging the life of their kidneys from the given life span of it.

I got an IgA Nephropathy. my nephrologist told me that I will know after 5 yrs if im going to take dialysis or a transplant. my target today is to prolonged the life of my kidney. i am really scared about this.. kidney diseases really takes a lot of effects in our lives. since i haven't need any kind of treatments only maintainance i am still scared of what may happen in the future... does it hurt? is it truly scary? is it tiring?

@Krazed4Tech , there is so much hope out there, esp for yound patients on dialisys. I just met a man who got a translplant and he is doing well. He does have to go for monitoring every couple of weeks, but that is a minot inconvenience. I pray you get the call for a donor match this year. Love and peace:-) Keep the hope and write me here.

@Tihbialdunav I'm so sorry for your loss. Dialysis is very frustrating, especially if you're 14 like me. It takes away from my teenage interests such as participating in High School this coming school year. I'm sorry your dad spent his final years on dialysis, and I'm sorry I brought it up so long after you commented. I didn't realize you posted that 3 years ago. Thank you for the hopes, I also hope I get one soon.

@Krazed4Tech , thank you for your kind answer. My dad died last year after being on dialisys for 2 years. It took its toll...He was getting worse all the time and he couldn't take the complications. I pray for everyone on that horryfing machine, hope you get a donor for transplant. God bless you all.

@Tihbialdunav It's supporting your kidneys, not replacing the function. It has to be done every week 2-3 ( I do it 3) times a week because it's the only form of filtration in your body. You don't just "go" on dialysis just because your kidneys don't work 100%. You have to have 20% or less function to be on dialysis.

@ForgotAboutShray Incorrect. Dialysis DOES NOT replace kidney function, yet it just supports it. Dialysis replaces about 12% function, about 60% less then a normal and livable kidney.

@Tihbialdunav if you are only needing it once a month, you do not have end stage renal function. Your GFR is likely greater than 15, meaning u have adequate kidney function. dialysis is used to replace kidneys, not to help them work.
