Benjamin Trail NP XL 1100 Ballistics Gel Test 9 - Crosman Premier (Dome)

I did a series of tests with my Benjamin Trail NP XL 1100 (.22 cal) to see how far a variety of pellets penetrated into, and how much they expanded inside of a ballistics gel block. I fired each pellet from about 4 feet away through a chronograph to measure its velocity, and also measured the heads' diameters to see how much they expanded. @GunsRlife17 Well yeah, you can hunt with any pellet you want and still kill things, you're firing something at almost the speed of sound through an animal. But if you really care about energy transfer and never needing to use a follow-up shot, you wouldn't use this pellet for hunting. Just look at how little the pellet expanded, and how far through the gel it went. It's pretty much useless as a hunting pellet, speaking comparatively of course. I'm just talking from a scientific perspective.

does this gel reperzent human skin?

@TheDylan222222 i don't know exactly how well it represents flesh, human or animal (which i assume would be fairly similar), but since the vast majority of it was made of water, as is flesh, i figured it represented it well. plus it felt like muscle or meat, so i would say yes, it does reperzent human skin :)

@lilwalkinglegs well it depends on what you mean by "better". accuracy might be better with a pcp depending on the person simply because of the incredible hold-sensitivity of this gun, however i can get a 3-4" grouping at a 100 yard gun range, and i can hit a dime at 30 yards, it just takes some getting used to shooting this gun. as far as convenience goes, this is better because you just break the barrel, pop in a pellet and fire as many times as you want. its all personal preference

@ApotheosisTK117 If you still own the gun, could you test the crosman premier .22 hps?

I will be using my trail xl primarily for killing garden pests up to possum size. I have been breaking the gun in using crosman roundnoses, and it has been devastating to the squirrels I have taken (turns heads to mush). I am wondering if the premier hp's perform significantly differently.

Once again, I'll add that bone makes a mess of the head of pellet and also adds to increasing terminal damage. Have you been able to recover a pellet after a head/shoulder shot? I've recovered a round ball from my blackpowder rifle after a shoulder shot deer and it's twice the size after hitting bone. I've also seen the exit hole from a broad side shot that is almost the same size as the entrance hole. The only thing missing from the equation is bone. Great videos. Thanks.

i use crosman premier ultra magums in my benjamin trail np xl 1100, and i get amazing groups, and a pretty flat trajectory, which makes up for the low expansion

@ApotheosisTK117 yeah ima get this gun thanks 4 ur help I got an R700 a .25 two .22's 12gauge .270 .230 but can't shoot them cuz where I live and for 25 rounds for the R700 is 75 bucks it adds up after awhile oh and 5 bow's and lots of swords and shit hahaha
