@Pj311foo I agree, but if you don't know "So-&-So", or if your not swapping wives with "Joe" or "John Shits-edible", the vendor will give you a hard time, regarding your purchase.
I agree with you, but isnt it a way to see how you can compare, share, and get more ideas. I won 2nd place at a Dayton, OH show. 2nd to only the 1st place being a pre-painted Tamiya kit. It was very disappointing and that was the last show I entered in. Now I only go for the feel and the vendor area :)
I believe modellers should enjoy themselves at the workbench, I believe they should display their work, and discuss their work. But, as far as to compete against and criticize each other's work is concerned, bye-bye.
I was an AVID member of IPMS/USA and IPMS/Orange County. That was until I realized I didn't have to drive 30-40 miles just to enjoy myself at the workbench. It dawned on me the way you get treated depends on how many trophies you own.
You should really try to attend the IPMS UK Nationals in Telford then. I think Brett would agree with me that show is a tad larger even. Perhaps not as many contest display entries, but the club displays at Telford make up for that.

Not when it depends on who your swapping spouses with, and whether or not the guy next to you is jealous of your knowledge, and craftsmanship.

Brett,
It was great getting to speak with you again at the show. Your camera-person replacement is not as good with the 'steady-cam' as your wife! :D
