Beam-Down Solar Thermal Concentrator (BDSTC) Tower Plant

This is a point focus concentrator of around 280 square metres of primary reflective area. The primary reflector system comprises of 33 2-axis tracking heliostats. This 100 kWth solar thermal concentrator is a unique solar research facility. As opposed to conventional tower plants, the receiver is located at the lower focal point close to ground.

  • For the record, I had this idea long time ago for home use. Another way that has still not been explored is to use the natural shape of the earth opposite the direction of travel of sun ... imagine a collector array about 2 miles long, along a curved side of a hill facing southward and the contours will match the contour of the travel of sun in the sky, this will be programmed to point to single point which will collect the heat and melt Salt to store that heat for continuous generation.
