The Archbishop of San Francisco has apologized for recently giving communion to members of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence -- a San Francisco society of of gay, lesbian and transgendered activists who dress in drag as nuns to make a statement against the Catholic Church's stand against gays.

The communion incident was videotaped at a Sunday mass and clearly shows two people in bizarre makeup and colorful costumes - including one dressed in a parody of a nun's habit - receving the Eucharist wafer from Archbishop George H. Niederauer at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in the Castro district earlier this month.

  • people are crazy! Jesus please help the Church!

  • And those "Catholics" who were "up in arms" over this need to learn some things. Technically, they shouldn't be denying anyone Communion. To deny someone Communion would be saying that you know the state of that person's soul. You would be acting as God. Besides, what about all the non-Catholics who take Communion? Are we going to start checking for Baptismal records now?

All this comes down to is the way they were dressed. Big deal, I say.

  • That guy whining about it, and blowing it out of proportion in the video needs to be quiet. It's between them and God. At least they didn't take the Sacrament, dash it to the floor and stomp on it. They were actually very polite about it. And where are they getting that they "hate" the Catholic Church? I didn't see much "hatred" in that video, from the Sisters. San Francisco has a historical Catholic culture, and many of the Sisters would be Catholic, themselves.

  • An invalid Novus Ordo Mess, with an invalid cookie; not the genuine Corpus Christi, since Novus Ordo "priests" are not validly ordained to even offer Mass.

  • The vatican does NOT condem homosexuality, they embrace it! You would think that a reporter would fact check. It is ACTing on the homosexuality that is considered wrong, not being gay.

  • You don't go to worship Our Lord in a clown outfit. This is incredible. What a disgrace. And what a lack of reverence to our Lord. Clearly no one there believed in the presence of our Lord in the blessed sacrament.

  • lol that poor archbishop...well when you have this post vatican 2 mass, with clowns and halloween costumes and dancing, how was he to know this was a spoof? How do you know anymore who is just reinterpreting prayer and worship and who is just making fun?

  • I'm not going to say that the two Sisters were being disrespectful, or that the ArchBishop did or didn't have a right to do what he did, but I will say that perhaps the A.B. did not realize who the sisters were and that in his mind he was giving the sacrement to someone who wished to partake in it without being judgemental of the persons appearance? In that circumstance, then aren't Mr. Gonzales's comments a little harsh?

  • Outrageous ! This is an outrage. Transvistites at a mass !!! An archbishop giving Holy Communion to gay transvisties !! The bishop should be replaced. He has no convictions.

  • @NativeNewYorkGuy It makes sense you don't don't even know what a green scapular is You won't debate the issue and stand up for anti pope b16 Let's debate it. Lets compare what he teaches to real Catholicism . Then you can learn what a green scapular is becsue that's the one you need . sayyourrosary not the "mercy chaplet "
