Is this tool dangerous in any way?

Say i do tracert to some malicious website or something like that. Any repercussions to that?

Hmmmm, ... ! let me put it this way, it is as dangerous as a road map! a terrorist can use a road map to find his way to ... an airport! but no one has ever blamed the road map because a terrorist blew up a plane!

I enjoyed this video - thank you. One question I have is if the first hop timed out, why don't all the subsequent hops time out - if you can't reach the first router, how can you reach the next hop?

We didn't get an answer from the first router because it is configured to ignore ICMP time to live exceeded packets though the router is working fine and routes packets to the next hope as determined by its routing table.

Traceroute can be used for many things, determining a bottleneck in a network, diagnosing connectivity issues, etc...
