Over the next few weeks I will upload in installments the playing guide from my new Kantele making CD-rom(out on the 15th of march), This will cover various tunings and ways to play and will use several tune examples from the Fishbone 5 String Kantele tune book available separately from lani K Thompson at

  • Hi there, I love your instruments and your videos! They have inspired me to stop drooling and start playing myself. :-) I don't know why, but I am having trouble playing Melkutus. I just got a five string kantele and admittedly I am terrible at reading music. I feel rather silly because I know that song is not very difficult, but I guess I am just easily confused! :-)

  • Thanks for your compliments, f you need the music give me an email, I have a link to a free version of it online. work on the melody first then add the drones afterwards! very slow at first , good luck

  • Ok, you've sold me! Where can I get a Kantele, that is of good quality, in the States?

  • I have sent many instruments to the States, but the current exchange rate is a barrier, My personal recommendation is the maker Gerry Henkel who makes the most lovely sounding instruments for very reasonable prices. His website is kantele dot com!!

  • Thanks, I think I was trying to do too much all at once. I just love this Dm tuning! :-)

I have decided to purchase the music that Lani sells, but thank you so much for the offer for the free music. If you have any neat songs for the five string that aren't in her book/s, do let me know.

    Cheers! :-)
