it is an allegory. the fire is a metaphor for the damage our culture is doing to the world. i am helping to put out the fire. you're dozing.

we won't get to find out if we can put out the fire until we're all trying.

even if all the hummingbirds followed his example, it would have done almost nothing. sorry, but sometimes we have to tolerate that some things--like Nature--are bigger than man and his (puny) efforts. Not saying your efforts are puny, but i worry they are smaller than we need to save us.
