Lohri is a Punjabi festival, which children and elders awaits alike. It is celebrated 1 day before the start of Punjabi Month Maagh (which is also called as Maaghi, also celeberated as makar sakranti), it usually falls on 13th of January. On this day children and elders go from house to house singing lohri songs like (sunder mundria Ho... Tera Kaun bechara...Ho... Dulla Bhatti wala...Ho.) for lohri gifts. They are gifted groundnuts, reori, gachak, wooden logs, cowdung and cash ofcourse. At night there is a community bonefire, the dinner is hosted by a family who had a new born male child or a newly wed couple in the previous year. People sit till early morning around this bonefire in the celeberation mood enjoying the chilly winter.
