WHO CARES ABOUT DASCHLE'S $128,203 in back taxes and $11,964 in interest.!

WHAT ABOUT THIS? Tom Daschle collected nearly a quarter of a million dollars in fees in the last two years speaking to leaders of the industry President Barack Obama wants him to reform as the administration's health secretary.

That was just a portion of the more than $5.2 million the former South Dakota senator earned as he advised insurers and hospitals and worked in other industries — real estate, energy and telecommunications among them, according to a financial statement filed with the Office of Government Ethics. Obama has said that no one in his administration who has lobbied on a set of issues within the past two years can deal with the same subject matter. The president has already approved a few exceptions, one of them a former Goldman Sachs lobbyist picked to be chief of staff for Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. Daschle, however, is not a registered lobbyist.

America's Health Insurance Plans, $40,000 for two speeches

CSL Behring, $30,000

National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, $16,000

Principal Life Insurance Co., $15,000.\

Daschle also earned more than $2 million in consulting fees from InterMedia Advisors LLC of New York, an investment firm specializing in buyouts and industry consolidation.

Washington law firm of Alston and Bird LLP. PAID HIM MORE THAN 1,000,000 DOLLARS A YEAR AS A NON ATTORNEY FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS!

Among other earnings, Daschle reported $250,000 in director's fees from the energy company BP PLC. He was a paid director for four other companies and organizations, among them the Freedom Forum, a nonprofit group that advocates First Amendment rights and funds the Newseum, a Washington museum focused on the news media.

AS A CONSERVATIVE I WAS ENCOURAGE AT WHAT PRESIDENT OBAMA DID ON THE FIRST DAY BY CAPPING SALARIES AT 100,000 DOLLARS IN HIS STAFF AND BY SENDING A MESSAGE ABOUT LOBBYISTS.
MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE BY NOT ALLOWING SPOUSES OF ELECTED OFFICIALS OR THEIR STAFF TO BE LOBBYISTS. IN ADDITION THE COST OF FLYING SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE NANCY PELOSI BACK AND FORTH FROM CALIFORNIA TO WASHINGTON , DC IS SO EXTREME THAT PERHAPS THE DEMOCRATS SHOULD NAME SOMEONE ELSE IN THE NAME OF ECONOMY. SURELY THE DEMOCRATS CAN FIND ONE OTHER MEMEBER OF THE HOUSE WITH SOME KIND OF TALENT. PRESIDENT OBAMA SHOULD PUSH THIS.
IN RECENT DAYS, HOWEVER, I HAVE SEEN PRESIDENT OBAMA STAND BEHIND TWO PEOPLE WHO ROBBED THE TAX PAYERS OF THEIR FAIR SHARE OF TAXES. BOTH ONLY SPOKE ABOUT PAYING ONCE THEY WERE CAUGHT. IN THE CASE OF FORMER SENATOR TOM DASCHLE AND HIS WIFE LINDA, THEY ARE THE LOW OF THE LOW AND MADE A LOT OF MONEY COMPROMISING THE SAFETY OF THE THE FLYING PUBLIC FOR SPECIAL INTERESTS. PLEASE DEMAND OF YOUR SENATORS NOT TO CONFIRM DASCHLE AND NOT TO SUPPORT THE PRESENT FORM OF THE STIMULUS BILL. IT IS TRYING BORROW OURSELVES OUT OF DEBT. IT CAN'T WORK. WE NEED JOBS. INDUSTRIAL JOBS.. REAL JOBS.
NOT SERVICE JOBS. SERVICE INCLUDING GOVERNMENT JOBS ONLY COME AFTER YOU CREATE REAL JOBS.

  • I have an idea that I'm sure will work if we can find a way to implement it....all congressional members will be subject to a tax audit every 2 years. If they don't pay up (including penalties) w/in 3 months, they lose their seat. If they pay up, but have two prior offenses, they loose their seat (3 strikes your OUT). This way we'd know they're paying taxes like the rest of us!! What do you think?? Let me know. If you have any idea of how to start the ball rolling on this, let me know.

  • you have taken the first step.

THe only reason why I have not lost my mind is that McCain was not better than Obama. They are both bought and paid for. i THINK THAT THRES STRIKES IS TOO GENEROUS. lIKE JUDGESO N THE TAKE.. DEATH PENALTY..

  • You can add this to his blind-follower status during the pre-Iraq war hype. "W" fooled him and he doesnt pay taxes. awesome.

  • We must stop spouses of elected and appointed officials from being lobbyists.. This is a must. Just look at Daschle's career! Be well.

  • I would like to see the same microscope on all politicians, regardless of political affiliation.
