This week the President announced the end of America's combat mission in Iraq and West Wing Week takes you there, on the ground, with an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the change of mission. We spent a week on the ground with our troops and civilians , some coming home, some staying for the next mission, training and supporting the Iraqis now that they have the lead in protecting their own country.

  • Very encouraged. Hope Iraq drawdown & redeployment will serve as a template for Afghanistan. Beyond that, need to:

    1) re-balance active and reserve components,

    2) train for civic action & emergencies in the US

    3) bolster ICE and border patrol on our southern border

    4) set up national security academy for foreign nationals

    5) set-up military-to-civilian reentry training for soon-to-be retirees and "career" military with career-ending disabilities.

  • Search for:

"The New American Century" free online.

It will describe the power structures behind war and how they profit from it - all on the tax-payer's back.

About a third of the US tax revenue goes to the war machine.

Over $US 600 billion a year is how much the most powerful military machine on Earth spends on defense, and it is fueled by nothing other than US taxpayer's money. Still, some Americans do not mind being in bed with the beast of war. No where else in the world are multi-million dollar war machines being marketed like soft drinks and cell phones as on the Washington D.C. subway. There are ads for military helicopters alongside those for a gambling spot.

  • 8.7 billion goes 'missing' in Iraq

    ------------

The Pentagon received 9.1 billion dollars in 2004 from the fund set up by the US-led occupation authority to benefit Iraqis with Iraqi oil and gas revenues and assets seized from the ousted regime of Saddam Hussein.

But the audit found the Pentagon cannot properly account for 8.7 billion dollars because defense agencies that received the money failed to set up required Treasury accounts and no single organization was created to manage the funds.

  • It is indeed troubling how easily led people are. We're managed like cattle: we're branded, tracked, monitored, inoculated, drugged, and experimented upon and told that this is freedom. Corporate teleprompted lickspittles assure us that all's well as unemployment and the illusory public debt escalates. Undeclared, therefor unconstitutional, wars in far-flung fiefdoms are fought against nonexistent armies. The U.S. is prosecuting a war in Afghanistan? Against what army? Against roadside bombs?

  • it is quite clear that the iraquis were not set free by this mission
