This is the Vassar College Orchestra and Choir performing one dance from Borodin's Polovestsian Dances on April 29, 2006. A friend was taking this video for me and you can tell her arm gets a little tired of holding the camera up. But at least you can see the trombones that whole time! (Part 1 of 2)

  • Very nice (as long as you only listen and not watch)! The altos have a beautiful tone. Actually, they all do. They have a nice, light sound. My community chorus is doing the same piece this season, and I hope we can get at least up to this tempo!

  • Thanks for the positive feedback, good luck performing the piece!

  • How beautiful! I love Polovetsian Dances, and the Orchestra and Choir did a wonderful job on this. Kudos to your friend for taping this. :) And by the way, is the choir singing in a particular language, or just singing sounds like "oh!" and "ah!"

  • Thanks for the comments! This piece was written (and sung) in Russian.

  • WHY WOULD YOU POST SUCH A MESSED UP VIDEO? POOR SOUND, POOR VISUALS! JUST RETARDED.

  • i played the clarinet solo part for my orchestra....its really hard to do that solo melody bit....but better faster that slower...

to all you borodin fans, i prefer tchaikovsky

  • so hard for trumpet! 8th grade band

  • OMG I have to play it in band class it is so freakishly hard!! I play the clarinet, so I don't get the melody and I get confused easily =(

  • i love this music!=)Borodin were the best russian compositor!

  • Limp. Tepid. Boring.

    (Everything that Borodin was not.)

What's next, chess matches with Bard College?

  • Bravo Vassar College Orchestra and Choir on a wonderful job of performing Borodin's beautiful Polovestsian Dances!

  • Many thanks.

  • You could try Chapells of Bond Street, London. They got me a recording of a choral version of this - it was a bit pricey, and it took 4 weeks, but they did it.

  • and the fact the altos sound like sopranos is probably due to the quality of the microphone in the camera
