This car has been customized by the addition of a tripower engine...and extensive woodgraining. A very nice result! This would have been the less deluxe version of the two door wagon...the Safari was the top of the line.

  • Whatever happened to style? The men who made these were artisans. We'll never see the likes of these again. So sad.

  • @hrsqsiest I agree! You could really tell one car from another..there was something for everyone! Today, I have difficulty telling new cars apart...it never happened back in the day!

    Thanks! :) Jack

  • That car looks cool with the woody trim inside and out. There is a red and white 56 wagon I seen in town but not as nice as that one.

  • @monarch1957 Hey, Barry! Glad you like! Nice to have one in the neighborhood! These cars had style and were useful too! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Wow this is a real beauty, Jack, I love it, the front bumper & grill are always the focal point of these cars for me :) Very nice wood grain effect on the dash in particular, beautiful!

Incidentally you're right by the way, Jack, about '56 being a little early for Tri Power, '57 was the first year Pontiac offered the Tri Power set up & the 347ci was the first to get it ;) ... But still, it's a very nice mod anyway!

  • @drewerz01 Hey, Mike! Pontiac was certainly unique..there was an attempt to integrate the bumper and the grille...now...there are no bumpers and no grilles in many cars! How times have changed! :D Thanks! :) Jack

  • @BRENTHENRY1989 Hey, Brent! Yes indeed..those twin chrome streaks on Pontiac were a dead giveaway that it indeed was a Pontiac! I believe it started in 47 as a single wide streak, then expanded in 55 as double streaks...then Bunkie Knudsen decided they limited the styling possibilities, so they were instantly gone in 57.

These wagons always look cool when they have something appropriate up top..and toboggans sure would be on a Canadian car! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @brians09challenger Hey, Brian! Indeed...I've seen quite a few cars that have nicely painted wooden touches.

If anything was over the top on this one it might have been the quantity of "wood" on the dash. Cool car, though!

    Thanks! :) Jack

  • always liked the metal bright work bands on the hood, gave it a unique look for sure, and that is sure unique, instead of real wood or vinyl, they painted the wood grain on, sure is different, and neat, overall this is a tasteful custom, great work indeed, a few years ago i seen a Pontiac Safari wagon that had some Snow toboggans instead of surf boards! ;) it had Ontario plates, but i can't remember if it was a unique "Canadian" Pontiac, as we had different Pontiacs back then,

  • @Sarcasticscum Hey, Nathan! Indeed...this one has a unique personality! Plenty of surfing cues and those woody touches are cool indeed! Thanks! :) Jack
