Testing whether an Atlas 89-foot flat (rated at 48" minimum radius) would make it through a 36" radius (O-72) curve with body-mounted couplers attached to scale-wheeled MTH U25B's as a "transition" car.

Thanks. The trestle is 48" radius (O-96) but the curve in the tunnel is 36" radius (O-72) and I didn't think the Atlas flats would make it through. Turns out the locmotive's Kadee couplers had enough swing to allow it to work. When I tried it with an Atlas 40-foot car in between the locomotive and the flat and it derailed -- the Atlas coupler pockets don't have the same swing as the Kadees. I'm going to change out my Atlas couplers for Kadees.

  • how much did that cost with the trains and how did you get that horn on?

  • @AGHRMatt Yeah I have one atlas 60' box car and I need to change the couple on it. It derails on a little longer trains.

  • awesome runby- i love those new MTH alcos especially the EL!
