Nine-hour bus ride to see a friend of mine
I'd neglected him as the year had found me obsessed with my own life
I wasn't there for his wedding or the birth of his first child
And these mistakes I'd long regret as I never make them right

And It's been seven years swallowed lord how the time has passed me by
I've written this song some three times, though it never saw daylight

it was like sleeping on nails and glass
your passing made such tremors
it felt as if the earth shook from the loss of the man

Though I relive our tours and drunken nights with a shiver and a smile
My blood runs cold with the ringing phone and Christine on the line
