"Infanticide is a common practice in most mammals. Male lions use infanticide to get rid of offspring in a newly acquired pride that are not genetically related to the male coalition. Solitary males are also capable of killing the offspring of an encountered pride. Female lions have also been observed to kill cubs from a rival pride, but they would never kill cubs from their own pride. The dead offspring are sometimes consumed as an energy source and other times they are simply just eradicated for the sake of it. Older cubs and sub-adults have a better chance of being able to escape incoming infanticidal males than younger cubs."

He's ridding the group of genetic material which is not his. The females will enter estrus state in a quicker way in response, allowing him to inject his genetic seed into the group. One of the more grisly effects of competition, for all you libertarian-types out there.

This male lion should have newly become the king of that pride and so it's killing the cubs of older king, to stop the females taking care of these cubs and getting ready for fertility.....This will only do good to the lions because healthier the father lion, more healthier the cubs....

For example, start cleaning yourself (even where the sun doesn't shine) with your tongue, next time you go on a date kill the young of the woman you're trying to hook up with, etc etc. Totally up to you bro.
