Rider: Jay Turcot
Skis: 189 K2 Pontoons

Myself, Scot and Kyle skied whistler following a 41cm overnight snow (which was preceeded by 81cm of snow the day before). We spent the day getting powder turns through the trees. My first day on my new K2 Pontoons and they were perfect for the occasion. No adjustment required! It was a rockin' day.

  • How do the hellbents compare to these?

  • @1veryreal Can't really say for sure as I haven't ridden the Hellbents. FWIW's, Hellbents are twin-tips and are undergoing design iterations over time whereas the Pontoon has remained the same ski Shane designed year after year (and continues to remain unchanged except for the topsheet color)

  • @pjturcot also the new pontoons have a stiffer tail

  • @yournameiswrong For myself and others: Any idea on which year they added the stiffer tail to the design? For the 10/11 model with the blue graphics or before?

I was under the impression the Pontoons always came with a stiff tail to help compensate for the pintail.

  • @1veryreal Can't really say for sure as I haven't ridden the Hellbents. Lots of resources to read up on reviews, but Hellbents are twin-tips where as Pontoons aren't. Also, the hellbent continues to evolve while the Pontoon has remained the same ski Shane designed year after year (and continues to remain unchanged except for the topsheet color)

  • I just bought a pair & have 2 months till the season starts, I was getting a little nervous about the width I plan to use them on aggressive cat ski trips mostly & have never skied on anything that wide but after I watched your vid I have complete confidence that they will be perfect. I am about the same level of skier as you & love skiing BETWEEN trees as well & like that they turn quickly. Thanks for posting, I will be able to sleep again

    Hey kreutztube,

I think the pontoons are pretty plug and play and are great for a first fat ski. I literally had no adjustment period and this day was my first on skis in 8 months (hence the wobbly arms). I have mine mounted to the line which is what Shane recommended on the TGR thread discussing the Pontoons and they've performed great
