  • If you're driving in snow, before you set off:

    - you MUST be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from all your windows

    - you MUST ensure that lights are clean and number plates are clearly visible and legible

    - make sure the mirrors are clear and the windows are demisted thoroughly

    - remove all snow that might fall off into the path of other road users

    - check your planned route is clear of delays and that no further snowfalls or severe weather are predicted

  • In winter check the local weather forecast for warnings of icy or snowy weather. DO NOT drive in these conditions unless your journey is essential. If it is, take great care and allow more time for your journey. Take an emergency kit of de-icer and ice scraper, torch, warm clothing and boots, first aid kit, jump leads and a shovel, together with a warm drink and emergency food in case you get stuck or your vehicle breaks down.

Search for the Highway Code on Directgov for more advice.

  • @Taheki No, think about Frosty The Snowman. He's hard to see crossing the road and you don't want to hit him.

SERIOUSLY? This is not a very good PSA. Cool effects don't mean good message. There's nothing here to show the hazards of snowy and icy conditions while driving. Just the word THINK that could be about anything.

  • THINK about cranking it up to 100mph?

  • Is that it? Is that the best the DSA can come up with? You'd get better advice by watching an episode of Ice Road Truckers :-)

  • let me guese what he's going to say When driving in the snow..... think well where have i heard that before ?

  • I tend to stand on my head on the bonnet whilst driving in the snow......

"When driving in the snow..... think" NAAAH you don't say!

    Dumb.

  • I LOVE driving in snow. I have a Corsa 1.7D, new tires on the front.. It loves the snow too, the narrow tires grip and the low power but plenty of torque from the engine make it so easy! Do not do handbrake turns or go drifting in empty snowy car parks.

If any one official is watching. ;-)

  • I loved these public info video fillers. Punchy and eyecatching.

  • Think about the nanny state, bent politicians, cops that get let off speeding of 155mph ' because they were practising their driving skills'. Women and some men drivers that wont or cannot reverse their car, so back out onto dual carriagways with frosted up windows, yep, i think of all of this.

  • Well, I certainly was thinking of not thinking whilst driving - hang on that's an oxymoron. Still, at least this advert isn't the bland and patronising advice we usually get:

'carry a warm rug in the car', 'take a flask of tea with you on every journey', 'if the road looks icy, don't bang the car into first gear and mash the throttle like a mentalist' and 'always arrange for a St Bernard to run everywhere after your car just in case you drive into a crevice on the M4'. - Thanks to SniffPetrol
