Data Centers REITs Gain Ground

www.reit.com Investors and analysts are growing increasingly more comfortable with the nuances of data center REITs, according to Hossein Fateh, president and CEO of DuPont Fabros Technology (NYSE: DFT). "The market is now starting to mature," Fateh says. He also notes that investors are coming to view data centers as their own asset class, rather than a "niche, specialty product." Fateh says data centers are now "one of the brightest spots" in the entire REIT industry. Regarding new developments in the technology sector, Fateh says the rise of "cloud computing" -- the use of Internet-based software and shared resources for computing -- has had a positive impact on his company's business. For example, Rackspace Hosting recently signed two new agreements to lease space from DuPont Fabros.
