350 bikers leave Moordrecht to commemorate the 59th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of the South Moluccas (Republik Maluku Selatan) in Apeldoorn.
This republic was constituted legally in accordance with International Law but was attacked at the end of 1950 by the army of the Republik of Indonesia and occupied at the cost of thousands of lives on both sides. After this a guerrilla-battle continued until 1963/64 on the island of Ceram under the leadership of the president, mr. Dr. Chris Soumokil. After his execution on April 12th 1966 by the order of general Suharto, a Government in Exile was established in the Netherlands, which is still functioning. In the Netherlands live an estimated number of sixty thousand South-Moluccans, ex-soldiers of the Royal Dutch-Indonesian Army (KNIL) and their descendants. Supporters of the RSM/FKM still hoist the RMS-flag on April 25th on the South-Moluccas and are often convicted to long-term imprisonment.
