  • Thank you for keeping the KALABARI culture and tradition alive. The Kalabari people are from the Niger Delta of Nigeria. The name has been mis-spelt as KARABALI as a result of the passage of time due to the forced movement of people. You surely dance like my people, as indeed, you are. If any of you ever have the chance to go to Nigeria, checkout the main Kalabari towns, being Buguma, Abonnema, and Bakana, in the oil Rivers. Port Harcourt is the nearest city.

  • Thank you for the great insight and for setting the record straight.

  • Rumbatá, uno de los mejores grupos de rumba de Cuba, y -por supuesto- el mejor de Camagüey... Se los extraña...

  • You are most welcome, my Kalabari brother. There's also a posting by 'agbetua' called 'BAILANDO CON RUMBEROS DE CUBA'. Thats's a 100% traditional Kalabari dance, performed by men and women in a dance society. There usually are masquerades (depicting different types of fish), performing in the dance group (ogbo). We have such dance societies as Okolokrukru, Owuama, etc. Stick drums, kuku, and nkuro, form a significant part of Kalabari musical instruments.
